THE MILLION $$$ GUITAR NEWS

VINTAGE GUITARS THE NEXT LEVEL

We are happy to report that the growth and interest in Classic Vintage Instruments is increasing. The demand from both collectors and investors for the worlds most iconic models is very strong. Our company have helped in sourcing and brokering the worlds most expensive and iconic vintage Instrument. Details as follows:

Gibson 1958 Korina Explorer

The 58 Korina Explorer, based on the availability of this model is Holy Grail of all vintage instruments

History

Designed in 1958 the Explorer, with its futuristic look was originally made for the country and western market but proved to be unpopular. Only a handful of these guitars shipped in their first year of production with the remainder being assembled and shipped in later years. There are less than 10 fully documented Explorers in existence, including examples owned by Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick.

  • 58 Serial Number
  • 58 Hardware (Note Gold Hardware opposed to many later examples having nickel/chrome)
  • White Guard
  • Factory Stop Bar (The 58 Instrument owned by Slash +the Skinners Auction EXP had factory fitted Bigsby that is less desired than a factory stop Bar)
  • Brown Case (As per 58, many later shipped Explorers had a standard Black Case)
  • 100% Correct /Original (Untouched, all 100%)
  • Exceptional Condition with light/normal playing wear

PRICE REALISED - $1.1 Million
Approx €979,350, £830,012

Documentation

The above instrument was fully documented both in online publications as well as being featured in various hard copy publications and was purchased/sourced from a highly regarded collector.

Market/Interest

An original Korina 58 is the worlds most desired and iconic of all vintage instruments and is above that of an original 58 - 60 Burst (This is the Next Level in desirability)

Availability/Collections

Original 58 Korina instruments are rarely available for sale. Most examples that are in existence are in private collections of both high $$ investors or iconic artists.

Past Sales

The last previous public sale of an original 1950s Gibson Explorer was via Skinners auction house in 2006 where a similar instrument commanded $611,000 US at auction, based on the figure realised for the the latest sale shows an average growth of around 10% per annum. That is far higher than any other vintage collectable.

Investment

The interest and demand for the worlds most desired and iconic vintage instruments is strong and based on Vintage Collectable guitars reaching the level that has been seen in other more recognised collectables ( Paintings , Art , Cars Etc ) we do feel the pricing of such instruments will increase at a steady, constant level in the next coming years and thus prove to be an exceptionally strong commodity that can be enjoyed.
